I will be in Kyoto, is there a place where I can visit you?

We are open to meetings and greetings at our Lab by appointment only.

How to make an appointment:

About your visit to Kyoto Research Institute:

  • Please do not wear any fragrances to Kyoto Research Institute’s Lab to ensure that scents do not interfere with on-site research.

  • Please note that you will be taking off your shoes, so do wear your favorite socks and slip-on shoes.

  • If you are coming by train, the nearest station is Miyake Hachiman on the Eizan Railway. We are located by 5 mins walk.

  • If you are coming by car, please inquire at info@kyotoresearchinstitute.com regarding car parking options.

  • If you are coming by taxi, please get off in front of the shrine gates here and walk 2 mins as the roads are extremely narrow leading up to Kyoto Research Institute.

Is your research focused on traditional materials of Kyoto?

Whilst we are based in Kyoto, our fieldwork spans every corner of the Japanese archipelago from snowy Hokkaido, all the way to tropical Okinawa. Each region of the country has unique natural resources and use cases of heritage materials.

I would like to work with you, is this possible?

There are numerous ways to work with us, from research and development of products, to the creation and execution of educational programming, all based on our fieldwork across Japan. Please contact us at info@kyotoresearchinstitute.com to inquire.

Can I purchase your field notes or research reports?
