I will be in Kyoto, is there a place where I can visit you?
We are currently creating a Materials Lab which we hope to share with you the details soon. When you join Fieldwork Club, we will gather for in-person Fieldwork Days twice a year.
We also offer daily workshops and five-day retreats with Maana Homes.
Is your research focused on traditional materials of Kyoto?
Whilst we are based in Kyoto, our fieldwork spans every corner of the Japanese archipelago from snowy Hokkaido, all the way to tropical Okinawa. Each region of the country has unique natural resources and use cases of heritage materials.
I would like to work with you, is this possible?
There are numerous ways to work with us, from research and development of products, to the creation and execution of educational programming, all based on our fieldwork across Japan. Please contact us at info@kyotoresearchinstitute.com to inquire.
Can I purchase your field notes or research reports?
In joining Fieldwork Club, you’ll have access to bi-annual research and design reports on heritage Japanese materials and their functional, sustainable, and aesthetic use cases today.
